The image is of Swarkestone Bridge / Causeway, it is an ancient monument between the villages of Swarkestone and Stanton by Bridge.

It was known as “Ponte de Cordy” and was first referred to in 1204. The present causeway dates from the late Thirteenth Century / early Fourteenth Century. It was the main crossing of the Trent and Marshes for about 300 years. It is ¾ miles long and has 17 arches.

The bridge was destroyed by floods in 1795. It is the longest stone bridge in England.
